Case study | Network infrastructure at a shopping mall

 
 

Company overview

A Croatian retail chain that has been operating in the market since 1990. Distinguishes itself by its recognizability and distinctiveness in relation to other “do-it-yourself” shops present in the market. A retail chain of this type operates in all regions of Croatia and is the logical first choice when it comes to products for construction, furnishing and home and garden decoration. A center where you can buy products from seven programs and choose among tens of thousands of different articles.

Challenge

The retail chain needed wireless coverage within the entire defined space of the center. The main requirement was setting up a Wi-Fi network that will have priority to secure the work of the terminal and enable the smooth operation of all access points.

Solution

The solution enabled Wi-Fi access to all selected locations, a stable Internet connection, simplified management of the entire infrastructure from one location, and smooth operation of all access points.

Result

At certain locations, a stable Internet connection was established and an acceptable signal strength provided.

 
 

Challenge

As the terminals operated at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, and because the main requirement was setting up a Wi-Fi network that would have priority to secure the terminal's operation, the coverage of all required spaces was achieved using a slightly smaller number of access point than it would have been the case if the plan called for devices that operate at a frequency of 5 GHz. For such devices it would be necessary to plan for a 25–30% larger number of access points to ensure that the coverage was the same as the current plan with the 2.4 GHz frequency.

Solution

Maidea offered equipment made by Aerohive Networks, a regional partner. AP122 access points were placed in the covered areas of the shopping malls, while the AP1130 model was used in outdoor areas. Following the initial installation, a signal quality measurement was repeated to demonstrate that the implemented solution meets the requirements of the client.

Result

The Aerohive infrastructure provided the shopping mall with a perfect solution according to their needs. It enabled users unfettered Internet access. The infrastructure and new access points can now be easily managed.
